The Technology Innovation Institute in Abu Dhabi and Nvidia have unveiled a collaborative research lab in the UAE, aimed at pioneering next-gen AI models and robotics platforms, as announced by TII on Monday.
This marks the establishment of the first Nvidia AI Technology Center in the Middle East, according to TII’s statement, which merges its diverse research with Nvidia’s powerful AI models and computing capabilities that are driving a worldwide AI surge.
The agreement allows the institute to utilize advanced edge GPU chips for enhancing its robotics research, among other fields, stated Najwa Aaraj, CEO of TII, who is focused on humanoids, quadrupeds, and robotic arms.

“We will begin using a new chip… It’s called the Thor chip, and it facilitates the development of advanced robotic systems,” Aaraj mentioned in an interview.
TII serves as the applied research branch of the Advanced Technology Research Council, an Abu Dhabi government body contributing to the UAE’s ambition to be a global leader in AI.
During US President Donald Trump’s Gulf visit in May, the UAE secured a multi-billion dollar agreement to construct one of the world’s largest data center hubs in Abu Dhabi, featuring cutting-edge Nvidia chips.
Aaraj noted that TII has been collaborating with Nvidia for some time and has utilized Nvidia chips to train its proprietary language models.
Negotiations for the joint lab commenced about a year ago, and the hub will accommodate teams from both entities, Aaraj shared, with plans to recruit additional staff specifically for this initiative.
