In an official statement, Al-Khatib stated that he was honored to preside over Al-Ahly for two electoral terms, during which he worked with his colleagues to enhance the club’s status in sports, administration, economics, and construction. He affirmed that the achievements and developments were the result of collective and institutional work.
He explained that he had repeatedly tried to stay away from pressures in response to doctors’ advice, but he always returned to his duties out of commitment to his responsibilities towards the General Assembly and Al-Ahly fans. However, his health condition now compels him to heed the doctors’ recommendations.
Al-Khatib confirmed that with the upcoming elections scheduled in less than two months, he has decided not to run for a new term and will dedicate himself to treatment. He expressed confidence in his colleagues’ ability to manage the upcoming phase and showed his readiness to offer advice until a new board is elected.
Mahmoud Al-Khatib concluded by inviting the members of the General Assembly to attend its meeting, scheduled for next Friday, September 19, and to participate in shaping the club’s future.
