In an intervention on ‘Sputnik’ radio, Al-Awiyawi stated: ‘This summit has paved the way to ease tensions between the United States and the Russian Federation, countering the European desire to impose dictates on the Russian side, which is not possible.’ He confirmed that ‘Trump is convinced by Putin’s viewpoint and is awaiting the European and Ukrainian stance on the points agreed upon, which have not yet become clear.’ He also emphasized that ‘the mere holding of the Alaska Summit is a victory for Russian diplomacy and President Putin’s policy in particular,’ stating that ‘the summit broke the ice barrier placed on Russia, marking the beginning of the path to lift the economic and political blockade.’ He stressed ‘the existence of agreements that have been reached between the American and Russian parties,’ noting that ‘Trump acknowledged Russia as a great power that cannot be defeated and that all the blockades have failed.’ Earlier yesterday, Friday, Russian President Vladimir Putin and his American counterpart Donald Trump held talks in Alaska. The two presidents met at the ‘Elmendorf-Richardson’ military base. From the Russian side, Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov and presidential aide Yuri Ushakov participated in the meeting. From the American side, Secretary of State Marco Rubio and President’s special representative Steve Whitkov attended. Trump announced that the next meeting between the leaders might take place in Moscow, and after the talks, the Russian president, following his meeting with Donald Trump, visited the cemetery where Soviet pilots who were killed in 1943 while transferring planes via the air route between Alaska and Siberia are buried.
