Zayed University Website Wins Bronze at Pan Arab Awards

Zayed University’s website won a bronze award at the Pan Arab Web Awards 2006 competition finals held in Amman, Jordan last month.

Zayed University’s website, www.zu.ac.ae, a collaborative project between the University’s IT and Publications departments, secured third place in the Culture and Education category among 10 finalists. Previously, the ZU website had won first place in the same category at the recent UAE Web Awards.

‘We knew we had a good website, and we were confident we would fare well,’ said Brian O’Flynn, ZU web strategist, who, along with web designer Imran Qureshi, designed the website. Both accepted the bronze prize for ZU at the awards ceremony in Amman.

The Pan Arab Web Awards competition was created to recognize excellence in web design and development skills. The event aims to bring together web design companies, freelancers, and web owners to compete for the best website in each of the 22 designated categories. This was the first time ZU entered the competition.

The ZU website, in its new format, has over 2,000 pages of information accessed by diverse audiences such as students, their families, current and prospective employees, the wider UAE community, and academics worldwide.

‘We update the content daily,’ said O’Flynn. Since the relaunch, he stated, their website has attracted over 850,000 visitors, with 22,000 page views every day.
