Zayed University’s website recently won a bronze award at the Pan Arab Web Awards 2006 finals held in Amman, Jordan. Their site, www.zu.ac.ae, developed collaboratively by the University’s IT and Publications departments, secured third place in the Culture and Education category from a pool of 10 finalists. Previously, the site had claimed first place in the UAE Web Awards in the same category.
‘We knew our website was strong, and we were optimistic about our chances,’ stated Brian O’Flynn, ZU web strategist and co-designer of the site with Imran Qureshi. Both accepted the bronze prize at the Amman ceremony.
The Pan Arab Web Awards was established to honor exceptional web design and development. It brings together web designers, freelancers, and site owners to compete across 22 categories for the best website. This marked ZU’s first participation in the competition.
In its updated version, the ZU website hosts over 2,000 pages of information, catering to students, their families, employees, the UAE community, and academics globally.
‘We update the content every day,’ O’Flynn mentioned. Since its relaunch, the site has attracted over 850,000 visitors, with 22,000 page views daily.
