The Israeli Broadcasting Authority reported on Wednesday evening that numerous Arab delegations, including Palestine and Yemen, along with other global delegations such as Iran, left the World Conference of Speakers of Parliament held in Geneva. The reason for the withdrawal of the delegations was attributed to the commencement of the speech by the Speaker of the Israeli Knesset, Amir Ohana, who proposed the establishment of the Palestinian state, which sparked a wave of anger and condemnation within the hall.
The conference, which began today, is held under the theme “A World in Turmoil: Parliamentary Cooperation and Multilateralism for Peace, Justice, and Prosperity for All,” and will continue over three days. The conference aims to enhance international parliamentary cooperation and discuss pivotal issues such as empowering women and youth, digital transformation, and achieving sustainable development goals.
The Gaza Strip is experiencing the worst humanitarian crises, as its residents suffer from severe famine imposed by Israel since October 7, 2023. From October 7, 2023, until the current July, the war on Gaza has resulted in the death of more than 59,000 Palestinians and about 143,000 injured, according to data from the Ministry of Health in the sector.
