The expert pointed out, in statements to the “Brazil News” website, that Trump’s remarks during the meeting, including his claim that he “ended six wars” since the beginning of his second term, indicate his attempt to portray himself as a leader capable of ending another conflict, not through a temporary truce but through an immediate peace agreement.
Souza confirmed that Trump is completely distancing himself from the approach of his predecessor, Joe Biden, whom he directly blames for the outbreak of the war, saying: “This is Biden’s war, but I came to end it.”
The expert also noted a significant change in Kyiv’s stance, pointing out that Zelensky has returned to proposing the possibility of holding presidential elections, something he had avoided discussing recently due to the ongoing conflict.
Souza believes this change is a result of direct pressure from Western allies, as the absence of elections in a country that describes itself as democratic causes embarrassment to its European partners.
However, she explained that Zelensky links the elections to the necessity of providing “safe conditions,” without specifying what that means, saying: “From his words, it is not clear whether he means ending military operations, an American military presence, or something else. Everything seems very vague.”
