A source in the local authority of the city of Marib told ‘Sputnik’ that armed men ‘riding a bus knocked on the door of the home of the supply officer in the 155th Infantry Brigade, Captain Younis Mohammed Al-Shuraihi, in the Jow Al-Naseem area of the city, before ambushing him with a barrage of bullets as soon as he stepped out, killing him instantly.’ He added that the gunmen fled the scene towards the Al-Wadi district east of Marib city, while the police have launched an investigation to uncover the identities of the perpetrators. For the tenth consecutive year, Yemen has been suffering from an ongoing power struggle between the internationally recognized government and the ‘Ansar Allah’ group (Houthis), with its repercussions affecting various aspects, including security, as reflected in the rising crime rate due to the proliferation of weapons. The ‘Ansar Allah’ group has controlled most provinces in central and northern Yemen, including the capital Sana’a, since September 2014. Meanwhile, an Arab coalition led by Saudi Arabia launched military operations on March 26, 2015, in support of the Yemeni army to regain these areas from the group’s grip. The ongoing war in Yemen, until late 2021, has claimed the lives of 377,000 people and inflicted cumulative economic losses estimated at $126 billion on the Yemeni economy, while 80% of the population, numbering about 35 million, are in need of humanitarian assistance, according to the United Nations.
