A post on X details the event, noting the quake’s depth of 140 kilometers. “EQ of M: 4.1, On: 04/12/2025 03:05:19 IST, Lat: 36.54 N, Long: 71.66 E, Depth: 140 km, Location: Afghanistan.”
Previously, on November 21, a 5.5-magnitude earthquake hit Bangladesh, causing a rooftop collapse in Dhaka’s Armanitola area, killing three and injuring ten, as reported by The Daily Star.
Shallow earthquakes often pose greater risks than deeper ones because their seismic waves reach the surface more quickly, leading to stronger shaking and potentially more damage and casualties.
Afghanistan frequently experiences earthquakes, particularly in the geologically active Hindu Kush Mountain range, according to the Red Cross.
On November 3, a significant earthquake in northern Afghanistan resulted in at least 27 deaths and 956 injuries, also damaging a historic mosque, as reported by CNN.
