On Monday, BBC News reported they had received a legal threat from US President Donald Trump regarding the editing of a documentary aired a week before the US presidential election.

The BBC admitted the edit of Trump’s speech created a misleading impression and should have been more carefully managed.

The documentary from last year had combined two segments of a Trump speech, making it seem as if he was inciting the January 2021 Capitol Hill riot.

A BBC spokesperson told Reuters via email, “We will review the letter and respond directly in due time.”

Samir Shah, chairman of the publicly-funded broadcaster, mentioned in an interview with BBC News that they are “considering” how to address Trump’s letter.

When asked if Trump might sue the BBC, Shah responded, “I do not know that yet, but he’s known for legal actions, so we should be ready for any outcome.”

The White House did not immediately comment on the matter.
