The BCCI secretary, Devajit Saikia, announced on Saturday that both the board and ACC President Mohsin Naqvi acknowledge the need to resolve the Asia Cup trophy impasse and have engaged in a cordial conversation about it.

After India won the Asia Cup final against Pakistan in September, the team declined to take the trophy from PCB Chairman and ACC President Naqvi during the presentation. Consequently, an official discreetly removed the trophy from the dais without explanation.

Speaking with ANI, Saikia noted that the ICC meetings in Dubai included both informal and formal sessions on Friday.

“In these meetings, PCB’s Chairperson Mohsin Naqvi and I, representing BCCI, were present. Although the matter wasn’t on the formal agenda, ICC arranged a meeting between us,” Saikia told ANI.

“Naqvi and I had a positive discussion. Both parties are committed to resolving the issue swiftly. The ice has been broken, and various solutions are being considered,” he added.

“The first step is complete. We’ll explore options to settle the matter and break the deadlock. In the coming days, we’ll devise solutions with the ICC’s assistance,” Saikia continued.

Despite the stalemate, India celebrated, with captain Suryakumar Yadav humorously mimicking Rohit Sharma’s post-2024 T20 World Cup victory walk, lifting an imaginary trophy.

The trophy dispute persists, as BCCI continues to refuse accepting it from Naqvi, who reportedly moved it from Dubai to Abu Dhabi.

Saikia previously stated on November 3 that the board is still awaiting the trophy. He mentioned raising the issue at the ICC meeting on November 4 if unresolved by Monday.

Now, Saikia is optimistic about “positive outcomes” in the near future, ensuring continued efforts.

“The ACC is also working towards a harmonious resolution. Every BCCI member and Indian citizen eagerly awaits the trophy’s arrival. While I cannot disclose details, we’re dedicated to achieving positive results soon,” he concluded.

In the final, Tilak Varma’s impressive 69 helped India successfully chase Pakistan’s 147 in Dubai.
