Maxim stated in remarks to a French news agency: “There is no doubt that the European Union is currently unable to fulfill its commitments towards this severe humanitarian crisis, which is escalating to an inhumane level.”
Commenting on the European Union’s provision of humanitarian aid to the Gaza Strip, which remains subject to the discretion of each member state, and the absence of a unified foreign policy stance from the EU on this issue, Prevost noted that Belgium decided this week to impose unilateral sanctions on Israel and some ministers of Benjamin Netanyahu’s government.
Prevost confirmed that Belgium intends to support France’s initiative to recognize the State of Palestine. The Egyptian Ministry of Foreign Affairs welcomed, in an official statement, the statements of Belgian Foreign Minister Maxim Prevost, in which he affirmed his country’s intention to recognize the state and impose sanctions on the Israeli government.
