In his speech during the emergency summit of the BRICS countries, Sisi stated that “the importance of BRICS as a prominent international forum is increasing, as the group continues to promote constructive cooperation among nations on the principles of mutual respect.” He added, “There has been a direct negative impact on the United Nations system, especially on the Security Council. The decline in trust has led several countries to call for a comprehensive reform of the Council.” He affirmed that “the Security Council has proven its inability to fulfill its role in resolving conflicts.” Brazil is holding an extraordinary virtual summit for BRICS countries today, Monday, at the initiative of the president to discuss the trade policy of US President Donald Trump. The BRICS group was established in 2006 by Russia, China, India, and Brazil, with South Africa joining in 2011. Since the beginning of 2024, other countries have joined BRICS.
