The evening witnessed a remarkable presence of boxing legends, led by the world champion Mike Tyson, alongside a select group of game champions from various countries around the world. They came to face exciting challenges in front of Benghazi’s audience in an enthusiastic and professional atmosphere. The night was not limited to sports competitions; it also included content creators, YouTubers, and celebrities from around the world who contributed to reviving and documenting the event, adding a global touch to it.
This edition continues the success of previous ones, in efforts to organize international events that enhance Libya’s image as a safe and open destination for sports, culture, and arts. It was noted that Libya represents an ideal and excellent choice to host such major bouts, given its good organizational capabilities and infrastructure, along with the great enthusiasm of the audience. On this basis, coordination with the organizing body was made to hold five top-tier bouts, which serve as an event maker and a prelude to expanding this sport’s base in the region.
Manzona affirmed that the successful experience in Benghazi encourages the organization to seriously consider organizing similar events repeatedly, pointing out that Libya represents a strategic gateway to Africa and enhances boxing’s presence there. He stated, “All the success factors are available here, and therefore the committee saw that Libya, specifically Benghazi, is the perfect choice to host this global event and contribute to establishing boxing on regional and international levels.”
Mohammed Al-Zwei, spokesperson of the “Benghazi Summer” festival, said that “tonight’s Friday evening will be different and exceptional,” describing it as “the night of legends,” as it will include 5 bouts for prestigious world titles, with the participation of an elite group of international ranked boxers in various weights. Al-Zwei confirmed to Sputnik that “the organizing committee was keen this year to raise the technical classification of the competitions and attract world champions to compete for high titles.”
He explained that “the festival aspires for Benghazi to become a future destination for boxing in Africa and the Arab world,” expressing his hope that “this championship will be a milestone in the city’s sports record and reflect a bright image of Libya as a whole.” Al-Zwei noted that “the championship will witness international participation from major boxing countries, including Mexico, Brazil, Argentina, New Zealand, France, Spain, and Venezuela,” saying, “We are confident that Benghazi will prove its ability to host major international events and is proceeding to establish its position as a global sports destination.”
