United Nations – A source told Sputnik that “Brazil has expressed concern about visa issues during a meeting of the Committee on Relations with the Host Country at the United Nations.” The Brazilian Foreign Ministry had confirmed, in statements reported by Western media, that some officials are still awaiting the necessary American visas to participate in the General Assembly meetings in New York.

White House spokeswoman Caroline Levitt said during a press conference last week that President Donald Trump imposed tariffs and sanctions on Brazil to protect the principle of freedom of expression, as he described it.

She continued: “Trump affirmed that Washington will not hesitate to use its economic and military power to defend this principle.”

In September of each year, world leaders from United Nations member states gather at its headquarters in New York to discuss important issues. The high-level week of the General Assembly meetings is scheduled to begin on September 22, and the first day of the general debate will start on the 23rd of the same month. This year’s theme is: “Better Together: 80 Years and More for Peace, Development, and Human Rights.”
