On Friday, a tragic accident occurred when a tourist bus crashed on a New York state highway, resulting in the death of five passengers. The incident took place 25 miles (40 kilometers) east of Buffalo as the group was returning to New York City from a visit to Niagara Falls, according to police reports.
The deceased passengers were identified as being of Indian, Chinese, and Filipino descent, authorities confirmed.
“It appears the driver was distracted, lost control, overcorrected, and crashed,” stated New York state police commander Major Andre Ray at the scene on Friday evening, revealing the initial casualty count.

Fortunately, no one else sustained life-threatening injuries, Ray noted. Several passengers received medical care and were subsequently discharged.
There were 54 individuals on board at the time of the crash, and no children were among the fatalities, as reported by US media, which contradicted earlier police statements.
The bus was returning from a day trip to Niagara Falls, located on the US-Canada border, when the accident occurred near Pembroke.
Mechanical Issues ‘Ruled Out’
“Mechanical failure and impairment from substances have been ruled out,” said Ray, adding that no charges have been filed.
Translators were dispatched to assist with communication with victims.
Eight helicopters were mobilized for the rescue operation, as confirmed by Margaret Ferrentino, president of Mercy Flight, a nonprofit air ambulance service provider.
“The driver is alive and cooperating — we believe we have a solid understanding of the incident’s causes. We’re ensuring all details are thoroughly examined,” a police spokesperson stated earlier.
State Governor Kathy Hochul mentioned that her team is coordinating with state police and local authorities “to provide assistance and rescue efforts for all involved.”
The blood and organ donation network Connect Life has called for blood donors in light of the crash.
“I am deeply saddened by the loss and injuries suffered, and I am praying for the families affected. My gratitude goes to the first responders on the scene,” expressed New York’s senior US Senator, Chuck Schumer.
Niagara Falls, known for its majestic waterfalls spanning the US-Canada border, remains a highly favored tourist spot.
