The Iranian news agency “Tasnim” reported that the preparatory session for the joint naval exercises of the BRICS countries was held today at the Cape Town port in South Africa, with representatives from Russia, China, South Africa, Ethiopia, Indonesia, and the Islamic Republic of Iran participating.

Maqsoudloo revealed that the exercises, titled “Will for Peace,” will be organized with the participation of combat units from the member states, hosted by South Africa, due to the economic relations and ties that bind the BRICS countries.

He added that the Iranian naval force has always firmly faced piracy and threats to international maritime security and has always carried a message of peace and friendship.

The anticipated exercises represent an expansion in the scope of military naval cooperation following the inclusion of new members to the BRICS group. BRICS is an international association founded in 2006 by Russia, China, India, and Brazil, with South Africa joining in 2011.

Beginning in 2024, Egypt, the United Arab Emirates, Ethiopia, and Iran joined BRICS, and Indonesia joined at the start of 2025. The Iranian news agency “Tasnim” also reported that the preliminary session for the joint naval exercises of the BRICS countries was held today at the Cape Town port in South Africa, with representatives from Russia, China, South Africa, Ethiopia, Indonesia, and the Islamic Republic of Iran participating.
