Videos showing the banner spread widely on social media. The banner, considered offensive by Poles, was raised after Israel’s 2-0 loss in the third qualifying round.
The incident sparked sharp criticism from Polish authorities and the football community. Polish President Karol Nawrocki stated, “The outrageous banner insults the memory of Polish citizens who were victims of World War II, including three million Jews. This is stupidity beyond words.”
Social media also circulated clips showing the incident, including the disrespect of the Polish flag, and someone engaging in indecent behavior.
