Crypto Market Shifts: A Transition, Not a Crash

There’s a well-known saying in the crypto world: when your aunt or neighbor—those who know nothing about blockchain—start asking how to get involved, you’re likely at the market’s peak.

That’s the cue for seasoned investors to consider selling.

So, after a rough week in crypto, when my brother texted, simply: ‘Crypto? Ouchy,’ I had two thoughts. One: ouchy is accurate. Two: if he realizes how bad things are, is this the reverse of the bull-market saying? Could someone who confuses bitcoin with a token or blockchain have identified the bottom?

First: maybe.

Second: this kind of magical thinking often stems from despair.

Recent weeks have unleashed unprecedented levels of FUD—fear, uncertainty, and doubt—that I have never witnessed in this sector. Editorials and headlines are drenched in ‘told you so’ smugness from those who never bothered to understand this ecosystem, now gleefully proclaiming the bull run as over and bitcoin as ‘done.’ Meanwhile, it’s easier to believe claims that markets are manipulated by institutions aiming to scare retail investors out to buy in cheaper. Everywhere, people with little blockchain knowledge scoff, feeling superior because prices plummeted.

(I’ll never grasp how people ignorant of a subject can be so confidently dismissive—and sometimes downright cruel—towards those who actually engage with it.)

In my mind, old financial doubts resurfaced. They sounded like: ‘Why did you think you could do this? This is another bad financial choice. You’re destined to be a poor old woman. You’re going to lose everything.’ These thoughts were especially harsh because this deep downturn coincided with my decision to conclude a major consulting contract and fully commit to Hotflash Inc, the global perimenopause and menopause platform I founded in 2020, now serving over 60,000 women worldwide.

Seeing my crypto portfolio dip into the red—even by a small margin—was not part of my transition plan.

It’s clear I didn’t take profits a year ago or during this summer’s peaks. Rookie mistakes. For my first genuine bull run (I knew too little in previous cycles to count them), I’m growing weary of constant macroeconomic uncertainty. Waiting for potential rate cuts. Listening to forecasts of an imminent ‘black swan’ event. Bracing for anything that might disrupt my investment strategy.

Sometimes, it feels like I’ll never actually be able to take profits.

But this, I also know, is typical during major changes: more questions than answers, more noise than clarity, more naysayers than visionaries.

Here’s the undeniable truth: this sell-off isn’t a crash. It’s a transition.

No short-term price movements can convince me that we’re not in the middle of a massive structural shift in the global financial system—one that fundamentally alters how money functions, how trust is built, and who controls value. This moment is messy, painful, and confusing. Yet, it’s also the window in which the foundations for an entirely new world are being constructed.

Whether it’s my long-term confidence in bitcoin, my medium-term positions in XRP and other large caps, or the risky low caps that have plunged but continue to innovate and build—this is the first time I’ve invested in something I genuinely believe in.

It’s not perfect. It’s not clean. There are scammers, bad actors, and wild uncertainty. But there are also brilliant minds crafting something more open, accessible, transparent, and inclusive than anything finance has ever been.

Eventually, when the dust settles, we’ll comprehend the true impact of this revolution. No matter what occurs in the interim, I’m committed to staying in long enough to discover for myself.
