Shoshani stated in a post on the “X” platform: “Hello Mohamed, after an initial review, we found no records indicating any incidents involving Suleiman Al-Obaid. To verify, we need more details.” The captain of the Egyptian national team and Liverpool star, Mohamed Salah, sent a fiery message after the death of former Palestinian national team star, Suleiman Al-Obaid. Salah reposted a post on his account on the X platform about the death of Palestinian player Suleiman Al-Obaid, commenting: Can you tell us how he died, where, and why? The Palestinian Football Association announced last Wednesday the death of Palestinian national team player, Suleiman Al-Obaid, nicknamed “The Pele of Palestinian Football,” after he was shot while waiting for humanitarian aid in southern Gaza Strip. The Palestinian Association stated, “The former national team player and star of the Shabab Al-Shaati team, Suleiman Al-Obaid, was martyred in southern Gaza Strip.” Al-Obaid was born in Gaza on March 24, 1984, and began his football career with the Shabab Al-Shaati Club, later playing with the Al-Am’ari Youth Center in the occupied West Bank and Gaza Sports Club. He was a mainstay of the Palestinian national team since his first appearance in 2007, playing 24 international matches and scoring two goals, most notably his famous bicycle kick against Yemen during the 2010 West Asian Football Federation Championship. He earned the title “Palestinian Pele” in recognition of his great talent, in reference to the legendary Brazilian football player considered one of the greatest in history. Al-Obaid, who lived in the Gaza Strip since 2010, was among six players from the national team from Gaza who were turned back at the Jordanian border for “security reasons” on their way to a friendly match in Mauritania according to Palestinian media.
