On Tuesday, fans of Indian megastar Dharmendra were shocked by false news of his death, only to later find out that the 89-year-old actor remains in the hospital for treatment. Several media outlets had prematurely reported his death, leading to a surge of tributes on social media.
Numerous well-known figures were misled by these inaccurate reports and promptly shared their condolences online.
India’s Defence Minister Rajnath Singh tweeted, “Deeply saddened by the passing of veteran actor and former MP Shri Dharmendra ji.” Superstar Chiranjeevi expressed, “Deepest condolences on his passing. May his noble soul rest in eternal peace.” These posts have since been removed.

This was the second occurrence within 24 hours where the legendary actor was incorrectly reported as dead. The family had not confirmed such news and were dismayed by the false reports.
His wife, actress-politician Hema Malini, and their eldest daughter Esha Deol, used social media to clarify the situation.
“This situation is unforgivable! How can credible channels circulate false news about someone who is recovering? This is highly disrespectful and irresponsible. Please respect the family’s privacy,” Hema shared on X.
“The media is spreading false information. My father is stable and recovering,” Esha stated on Instagram.
An official statement from Dharmendra’s elder son, Sunny Deol’s team, was released soon after.
“Sir is recovering and responding well to treatment. Let’s all wish for his good health and long life,” a representative from Sunny’s team informed Khaleej Times. Dharmendra was hospitalized after experiencing breathlessness, they added.
Sunny Deol is at the hospital with his brother Bobby and son Karan, attentively monitoring their father’s health. On Monday evening, his team requested everyone to pray for his swift recovery and respect the family’s privacy.
