Speculations about veteran Bollywood actor Dharmendra’s health were dispelled after family sources confirmed that the 89-year-old icon is not on ventilator support and is recuperating under observation at Mumbai’s Breach Candy Hospital.
Set to celebrate his 90th birthday in December, Dharmendra was admitted on October 31 for what his team termed a routine medical check-up. “There’s absolutely no reason for worry. Dharmendra is in good health and frequently visits the hospital for regular tests,” his team noted earlier, according to Screen by The Indian Express, mentioning that rumors likely started after someone saw him at the hospital.
On Monday, numerous reports alleged Dharmendra’s condition had deteriorated and that he was on a ventilator; these claims were quickly refuted by sources close to his son Sunny Deol. “The ventilator news is completely false. Dharmendra has been in the hospital for a week but not on a ventilator. Sunny visited him in the morning and left. If it were serious, the whole family would be there,” the source clarified, according to the report.
While some unverified reports suggested Dharmendra was admitted due to breathlessness, his family asserts that the situation is not critical and that the veteran actor is recovering well.
The legendary star last appeared in Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani (2023) and is set to feature next in Sriram Raghavan’s war drama Ikkis, alongside Agastya Nanda and Simar Bhatia. The film draws inspiration from the life of Second Lieutenant Arun Khetarpal, India’s youngest Param Vir Chakra awardee.
