The work was conducted off the western coast of Abu Qir, where research confirmed the presence of an ancient Roman city containing temples, port buildings, and a water supply system on the seabed. According to the Egyptian Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities, this is the first large-scale underwater excavation in 25 years. Scientists believe that this discovered complex is a continuation of the ancient city of Canopus.
