The Dubai Court of Appeal has confirmed the life sentence of an Arab man convicted of murdering his friend after a heated argument at his home in Jumeirah. The court also decreed his deportation post-sentence.

This incident traces back to October 2022, when a woman notified the police of a potential murder at an apartment in Jumeirah Beach Residence (JBR). She, a mutual friend of both the victim and the suspect, had visited the suspect in the hospital earlier that day. During her visit, he seemed uneasy and asked her to check on their mutual friend at his apartment.

Upon arriving, she was shocked to find the victim lifeless on the floor, drenched in blood and wrapped in bedsheets. She promptly alerted the police.

Police officers at the scene discovered signs of a violent struggle. However, the suspect had already left the hospital and was missing from his residence. Authorities initiated a manhunt and questioned his father.

The father disclosed that his son’s behavior had recently changed. On the crime day, the victim visited the accused, leading to a fierce argument. After leaving the house, the father received a distressing call from his son, admitting to assaulting his friend, resulting in the latter’s death. The accused also expressed intentions to flee the country.

Police quickly tracked the suspect to a hotel in another emirate, where he was planning to escape the UAE with his brother’s aid. He was arrested and charged with premeditated murder by the Dubai Public Prosecution.

The Dubai Criminal Court found him guilty, sentencing him to life imprisonment. The Court of Appeal later upheld this verdict, confirming his deportation after serving his term.
