For Dubai’s fitness enthusiasts, summer can pose challenges for outdoor activities. This year’s month-long Dubai Mallathon provided a welcome solution, allowing runners to enjoy air-conditioned indoor spaces for their morning runs, avoiding the scorching heat.

Dubai residents can now look forward to using the city’s iconic malls as jogging tracks every summer. Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai, has announced that the Dubai Mallathon will be an annual three-month event from June 15 to September 15, held in various malls throughout the city. This initiative aims to broaden participation and enhance community engagement.

The announcement follows the inaugural event’s success, which saw a remarkable turnout and set a Guinness World Record for the largest mall run. The record was achieved at Dubai Hills Mall, where 1,392 participants from diverse backgrounds competed.

Innovative Community Sporting Events

Sheikh Hamdan lauded the success of the Dubai Mallathon, emphasizing that under the leadership of Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Dubai aims to solidify its status as a hub for innovative community sports events. This promotes sports as a key component of quality life, fostering social empowerment and positivity.

He stated, “The extraordinary community involvement during the Dubai Mallathon’s month-long event highlights sports as a universal language in Dubai, a lifestyle, and a form of self-expression. Our goal is to build a healthy, active society through innovative initiatives inspired by Dubai’s vision.”

“We have now directed that the Dubai Mallathon be an annual three-month event across Dubai’s malls to sustain this success, increase its reach, and offer broader participation opportunities,” he added.

“Our initiatives should have a lasting impact beyond the events, inspiring sustainable change and community inspiration. They should ignite a passion for movement, achievement, and giving, becoming catalysts for positive change,” he concluded.

Closing Activities

The Dubai Mallathon concluded last Sunday after a month-long event with over 40,000 participants of various ages and nationalities. Over 31 days, participants logged more than 120 million steps on indoor tracks at nine major shopping malls.

The closing events featured a 42-kilometre marathon with 40 runners and a special women’s race in collaboration with the Dubai Sports Council to celebrate Emirati Women’s Day.

Sponsored by the Ministry of Defence and partnered with the Dubai Sports Council, the Mallathon aligns with the ‘Year of Community,’ Dubai Social Agenda 33, and the Dubai Quality of Life Strategy 2033, aiming to create a healthy, cohesive community through sports as a daily habit and quality of life pillar.
