Dubai Municipality Pavilions Boost e-Service Awareness

Abdullah Al Shaibani, Assistant Director General of Dubai Municipality for Technical Services, highlighted that the municipality’s pavilion at the exhibition is drawing significant visitor interest. Attendees are also receiving training on utilizing the e-Services. The pavilion is part of the expansive Dubai e-Government display and features two main sections. One section is dedicated to showcasing the Municipality’s e-Services, while the other provides details on interactive maps created by the Geographic Information Systems (GIS) Centre. These maps assist users in locating any facility in Dubai and crafting a personalized location map. Al Shaibani mentioned that Dubai Municipality’s e-Government initiative aims to reach a 90% electronic transition by 2007, with the DM portal currently offering around 354 online services. “Our participation in Gitex is intended to raise awareness about the e-Services offered by Dubai Municipality,” Al Shaibani explained. “This is crucial to encourage more customers to complete their transactions online instead of visiting municipal offices.” The GIS section highlights the integration of Dubai Municipality’s GIS database with other government entities, demonstrating how interactive maps aid in navigating the city.

This section is receiving positive feedback from visitors from Qatar, Saudi Arabia, and Iran, who are keen to learn about accessing these interactive maps. Since the launch of Dubai Municipality’s portal in October 2001, it has recorded 3.2 million online transactions. The portal provides nearly 70 online transactional services and includes a Directory of Services with information on over 280 municipal services.
