Dubai’s Emergency Aid to Afghanistan Earthquake Victims

Following the catastrophic earthquake in Afghanistan last week, Dubai dispatched an emergency airlift with vital relief supplies to support the affected regions.

A B747 freighter left Dubai on Monday morning, transporting approximately 84 metric tonnes of crucial aid, including medical supplies, shelter materials, and other emergency items. This aid, valued at over $929,500 (Dh3.4 million), aims to assist nearly 730,000 people affected by the disaster.

Giuseppe Saba, CEO of Dubai Humanitarian, stated: “After the earthquake, we collaborated with international agencies to assess needs and prioritize essential relief items. This airlift demonstrates our united commitment to support the people of Afghanistan during their crisis.”

The relief effort was organized with Dubai Humanitarian community members, including the World Health Organization (WHO), the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR), the UN Humanitarian Response Depot (WFP/UNHRD), and the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF).

One of Afghanistan’s most severe earthquakes, measuring 6.0 in magnitude, struck around midnight on September 1, at a shallow depth of 10km (6 miles).

By September 4, the Taliban administration reported 2,205 deaths and 3,640 injuries.
