Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) announced on Thursday that repair work on one of the city’s busiest highways is nearing completion. The RTA has been improving a 14-kilometre section of Emirates Road, which is scheduled to finish by August 25, coinciding with the start of the new school year.

The project, which involves rehabilitating both slow and fast lanes, aims to enhance traffic flow, improve road quality, and increase safety for all road users, according to an RTA post on X.

For the past two months, the RTA has been executing the project in phases to minimize major traffic disruptions.

“We complete a section of the reconstruction every 48 to 56 hours, covering about 400 to 500 meters of road. By August 25, both directions of the highway will be open, ensuring smoother traffic flow,” stated Abdullah Lootah, director of Road and Facilities Maintenance at the Traffic and Roads Agency, to Khaleej Times earlier this month.

The decision to reconstruct the road followed inspections that revealed a decline in the Pavement Quality Index (PQI) to approximately 85% in certain areas, primarily due to heavy truck traffic.
