Hashim, in statements to the agency on the sidelines of the Russian Language Week in Africa in Cairo, said that Egypt has successfully established a strong scientific school in teaching Russian over the decades. This has contributed to the creation of 12 specialized departments in Egyptian universities, alongside graduating thousands of experts, translators, professors, and diplomats proficient in the Russian language.

He added that Egypt’s efforts have not stopped at its geographical borders but have extended to other Arab countries, including Saudi Arabia, where new departments for teaching Russian have been established with the contribution of Egyptian experts.

Hashim spoke about the role of the BRICS group in supporting the spread of the Russian language, especially after Egypt’s official accession to the international association in January 2024, coinciding with Russia’s presidency of the current session of the group.

He pointed out that work is underway to create a network linking the universities of BRICS countries, in addition to future projects including the establishment of BRICS schools and then BRICS universities in the member states, confirming that these steps will constitute a qualitative leap in educational cooperation among the participating countries.

He explained that the agreement aims to enhance cooperation between research centers in the two countries and expand the partnership between Egyptian and Russian universities in various fields, stressing that this step represents a strong boost to the academic and scientific relations between Cairo and Moscow.
