The government stated in an announcement published on its official website that this decision is currently awaiting approval for implementation. The British government said that Foreign Secretary David Lammy made an official visit to the Syrian capital, where he held talks with Syrian officials.
An official statement clarified that this visit is part of a “new diplomatic approach” aimed at enhancing communication with regional parties to support stability in Syria and endorse the political solution efforts under the auspices of the United Nations.
In July, the Syrian interim president in Damascus received the UK Foreign Secretary, in the presence of the Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates, Asaad Al-Shibani, to discuss bilateral relations between the two countries and ways to enhance cooperation, in addition to regional and international developments, according to the Syrian News Agency “SANA.”
