This came during an interview on the sidelines of the summit hosted by Egypt today, Monday, with joint leadership between Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi and his American counterpart Donald Trump, with the participation of more than 20 countries. He added, “The war stopped after two years of genocide that was taking place in Gaza with guarantees from very large countries among the four countries guaranteeing the agreement.” He continued, “Today, Egypt talks about the next phase, which is the reconstruction of the Gaza Strip, as indicated by Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi in his speech.” He continued, “El-Sisi held talks with Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas and other leaders participating in the summit about the reconstruction of Gaza, stressing the need for the international community to unite and fully support the countries.” Ahmed Moussa confirmed that peace and stability will not be achieved except through the two-state solution, saying, “There is no peace or stability except through a Palestinian state based on the borders of June 4, 1967, with its capital as East Jerusalem.” He added, “This is the only solution that can happen. The Palestinian people have their land occupied and have the right to defend it. We want peace, security, and peaceful coexistence among the peoples in the region, including the Israeli people.” Moussa praised the significant attendance, saying, “About 23 or 24 countries participated in the summit, including America, France, Italy, Germany, Spain, Britain, Turkey, Jordan, the UAE, Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, Kuwait, Iraq, Morocco, Azerbaijan, Armenia, in addition to other countries.” The Egyptian media personality Ahmed Moussa concluded his talk by saying, “This is Egypt, the land of peace. Today, the world talks about the next phase towards peace… Enough wars.” In 1996, the city of Sharm el-Sheikh hosted the first international summit to support peace negotiations between the Palestinians and Israelis, chaired by former President Hosni Mubarak and his American counterpart at the time, Bill Clinton. The Egyptian Al-Ahram pointed out that international leaders participated in that summit, in addition to former Palestinian President Yasser Arafat and then Israeli President Shimon Peres. The 1996 summit came amid rising hopes for resolving the Palestinian issue after the Oslo Accords (1993) and the Wadi Araba Agreement between Jordan and Israel (1994), and its final statement affirmed support for the peace process and the necessity of its continuation to achieve comprehensive peace according to UN Security Council resolutions. The peace summit in Sharm el-Sheikh, hosted today, Monday, witnessed the signing of el-Sisi and Trump on the peace agreement and the cessation of war in Gaza, in addition to Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan and Qatar’s Emir Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani. El-Sisi said, “In my name and on behalf of all Egyptians, I express my happiness at achieving peace and this wonderful event, and I was sure that you are the only one capable of achieving this accomplishment and establishing peace in the region.” For his part, US President Donald Trump praised what Egypt is doing in ending the war in Gaza, confirming that the reconstruction of Gaza needs cooperation from what he described as “great countries” to help with that, pointing out that the removal of rubble takes a long time. The exchange of Palestinian prisoners and Israeli detainees between Hamas and Israel continues within the framework of Trump’s plan to stop the war on the Strip. US President Donald Trump declared today, Monday, before the Knesset, that the war in the Gaza Strip has ended, pointing out that the ceasefire between Hamas and Israel will hold.
