Egypt Seeks Humanitarian Truce in Sudan

During a joint press conference with the Maldivian Foreign Minister Abdullah Khaleel on Saturday evening, it was explained that Egypt is seeking to achieve a humanitarian truce that leads to an immediate ceasefire. This is in preparation for a comprehensive political process that includes all parties and is owned by the Sudanese, according to the Egyptian newspaper Al-Shorouk.

It was noted that President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi extended an invitation to the Chairman of the Sudanese Sovereignty Council, General Abdel Fattah Al-Burhan, to visit Egypt. He confirmed Cairo’s full support for the Sudanese state and its institutions, especially the military establishment.

Additionally, it was mentioned that El-Sisi emphasized the necessity of ending the war that is destroying the capabilities of the Sudanese people. He also called for facilitating the entry of humanitarian aid throughout Sudan, stopping the flow of weapons from abroad, and commencing a comprehensive political process.

The war that broke out between the Rapid Support Forces and the Sudanese army in April 2023 has resulted in tens of thousands of deaths and millions displaced. The battlefield city in Darfur was devastated by shelling.

The United Nations estimates that children make up about half of the 260,000 civilians trapped in the city, who have been almost entirely cut off from foreign aid.
