The official spokesperson for the Egyptian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Tamim Khalaf, confirmed on Wednesday that Minister Abdel Aty reviewed the latest results of the ceasefire negotiations in Gaza following Hamas’s approval of the proposal previously submitted by Witkov. He explained the crucial importance of Israel’s response to the proposal and the extent of its implementation to address the current crisis, preserve the lives of Israeli detainees, and alleviate the suffering of Palestinians in Gaza. He also discussed how to provide sufficient aid to meet the needs of the Palestinian people, who are subjected to systematic starvation policies.
The Egyptian Foreign Minister emphasized the need to seize the opportunity, especially with Hamas agreeing to Witkov’s proposal to end the war in Gaza.
In the same context, the Egyptian President discussed with his French counterpart, Emmanuel Macron, in a phone call on Wednesday, the intensive efforts to reach a ceasefire agreement in the Gaza Strip, release hostages and prisoners, and facilitate humanitarian aid amid the worsening crisis within the sector.
He added that during the phone call, President Sisi stressed Egypt’s firm stance against any attempts to displace the Palestinian people from their land or infringe upon their legitimate rights, primarily the establishment of their independent state on the borders of June 4, 1967, with East Jerusalem as its capital.
From October 7, 2023, to August 17 of this year, approximately 62,000 Palestinians have been killed, and about 156,000 injured, according to data from the Palestinian Ministry of Health in Gaza.
