Egypt’s Role in Gaza Peace Efforts

In a series of meetings and discussions conducted by the Egyptian minister with major foreign media outlets, Abdel Aty highlighted the Sharm El-Sheikh Summit as a pivotal moment in supporting stability in the region and as a new chapter in efforts to promote peace in the Middle East.

Abdel Aty discussed Cairo’s vision regarding several topics related to governance in the Gaza Strip, security arrangements, and humanitarian aid to the region. He indicated Egypt’s intention to host an international conference in collaboration with international partners for early recovery and reconstruction of Gaza.

The Egyptian Foreign Minister noted the leading role his country has played in the successful negotiations regarding the agreement to end the war in Gaza. He emphasized Egypt’s ongoing efforts to mitigate the catastrophic consequences of the war on the Gaza Strip, to increase efforts to deliver humanitarian aid to Gaza, and to help Palestinians return to their normal lives.

On Monday, Egypt hosted a peace summit in Sharm El-Sheikh, chaired by Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi and U.S. President Donald Trump, with the participation of delegations from about 20 countries.

Over two years of continuous Israeli war on the Gaza Strip, the region has been destroyed from south to north. The medical sector, schools, universities, places of worship, infrastructure, and vital resources that support life in the Strip have been destroyed. Fifteen vital sectors in Gaza have been devastated, and the attacks have resulted in large numbers of civilian Palestinian casualties.
