The UAE Mission in Paris has advised Emiratis in France to stay cautious on Thursday, September 18, due to expected nationwide strikes and protests affecting many cities.
Emirati nationals are urged to be vigilant, adhere to safety advice from local authorities, and avoid protest areas. They should also register with the Tawajudi service and use emergency contacts 0097180024 or 0097180044444 if necessary.
French trade unions have organized the strike to oppose “harsh” budget cuts announced earlier this summer. Despite Prime Minister Sébastien Lecornu’s promise of “significant changes,” he hasn’t dismissed unpopular spending cuts.
Over 250 protests are planned across France on Thursday, September 18, following a call from unions to demonstrate against the summer’s austerity budget.
Although the government has rescinded a plan to cut two public holidays, unions remain firm. “He didn’t commit to anything. None of the harmful policies from [former Prime Minister] François Bayrou’s era have been reversed,” stated Sophie Binet, leader of the CGT union.
Union leaders are urging workers from all sectors to mobilize on September 18 to demonstrate their strength as the government readies its next budget.
