As the UAE advances towards a knowledge-based and sustainable economy, Emiratisation is more crucial than ever. The government’s policy to increase Emirati workforce participation is a key driver of national growth, enhancing workforce skills diversity, creating valuable career paths for UAE nationals, and fostering national pride and identity across all sectors.

Turning Numbers into Impact

Historically, Emiratisation has targeted increasing UAE nationals’ presence in the workforce, especially in the private sector, where they have been underrepresented, comprising just 0.34% of roles. However, initiatives like NAFIS are changing this landscape. Over 131,000 Emiratis now work in the private sector, marking progress in representation and opportunity.

Despite these strides, significant gaps remain. In the insurance sector, Emiratis represent 22% of the workforce, or 2,159 out of 9,773 employees as of June 2025. To close these gaps, the UAE aims for 50-60% Emirati representation in this sector by 2030, including leadership positions. This goal reflects a broader ambition for impactful industry participation.

Emiratisation as a Strategic Advantage

Forward-thinking companies now view Emiratisation as a strategic asset, not just a compliance measure. Employing Emiratis at all levels fosters cultural alignment, boosts trust, and unlocks new opportunities. NAFIS supports this with wage subsidies, training, and recruitment aid, benefiting both employers and Emirati professionals.

Empowering Future-Ready Talent

Emiratisation’s transformative impact lies in skill development. In a world requiring digital fluency and adaptability, it positions Emiratis as leaders, not just participants. Initiatives for upskilling, mentorship, and professional growth prepare the national workforce to meet current needs and shape future industries.

The Convergence of Innovation and Emiratisation

The UAE’s rapid digital transformation, spurred by technologies like AI, offers new prospects for Emirati professionals. As industries evolve, aligning cultural heritage with innovation becomes vital. Emiratisation supports this by cultivating national talent in emerging technologies, preparing Emiratis to lead and compete globally.

As AI reshapes roles and business models, Emiratis with digital and AI skills will excel in performance and leadership. The UAE government promotes AI literacy and digital skill development, an essential part of the modern Emiratisation strategy. Starting this academic year, a mandatory AI curriculum will be introduced in all public schools from kindergarten to Grade 12, equipping the next generation with future-ready skills.

A Foundation for Sustainability and Sovereignty

Emiratisation is pivotal for the UAE’s goals of economic sovereignty, social cohesion, and resilience. By developing a locally-driven talent pool across industries, the UAE reduces reliance on expatriate labor, building a diverse, homegrown workforce. The evolution of Emiratisation is about more than filling roles; it’s about building strategic capacity and empowering leadership.

Emiratisation redefines success, measured by contributions and future-shaping impact, not just workforce entry. As the UAE progresses, Emirati professionals will remain central to national growth, turning challenges into opportunities and aspirations into achievements.
