Erdogan’s Speech on Syria and Turkey’s Support Initiatives

Anadolu Agency reported this Tuesday evening that President Erdogan’s statements came during a speech at an event organized by the ruling Justice and Development Party in the capital, Ankara. Erdogan stated that seeing the Syrian people striving for a year to rebuild their country despite all the difficulties and destruction left by Assad’s regime is heartening. Turkey did not heed the pressures and threats nor those “bankrupt in humanity” who stood by the oppressors and always sought to stop injustice, according to his expression.

The Turkish president emphasized that the smooth implementation of the March 10 agreement between Damascus will overturn the calculations of the “evil centers” betting on an unstable, divided, and weak Syria. Erdogan said, “We do not think like others about what is imposed on us or placed before us; we stand by the oppressed wherever there is injustice, and we confront the oppressor without hesitation. We defend rights, justice, peace, and human dignity courageously, not only in our region but in the entire world.”

The Turkish president pointed out that “Turkey being a state that creates order and stability has given confidence to tens of millions in areas stretching from the Middle East to the Caucasus, from Africa to South Asia.” Erdogan affirmed that Turkey is doing what it can in a manner befitting it, in crisis areas from Gaza to Syria, clarifying that “Turkey’s principled stance towards what is happening in Syria and Gaza is a lesson in human rights, indeed a legal epic in itself,” as he put it.

Earlier last month, the Turkish president expressed his great happiness at representing itself again in the Economic and Commercial Cooperation Committee of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (COMCEC), according to his expression. During the 41st session of COMCEC in Istanbul, the Turkish president announced the launch of a special support program for Syria to enhance its human and institutional capacities. Erdogan said, “Fortunately, sanctions that significantly hindered economic development in Syria are gradually being lifted thanks to our efforts, and today, under the umbrella of COMCEC, we are launching a special support program for Syria,” according to Anadolu News.

He continued, explaining that “through small and medium enterprises, we are building strong cooperation networks between our small and medium enterprises, and we invite countries that have not yet joined this program to join.” The Turkish president added, “During this year, we are adding 8 more projects to the 20 projects we have implemented under the COMCEC program for Jerusalem.”
