As the Dubai Shopping Festival (DSF) nears, residents are already strategizing their purchases, eagerly awaiting discounts on items they’ve deferred buying for months.

At a perfume shop in Deira City Centre, Ahmed El Sayed shared that he’s been postponing buying fragrances since September. “I’ve waited nearly three months to purchase perfumes,” he said. “The sales team informed me that DSF discounts are starting, so I expect to save significantly.”

The Egyptian sales executive is set to travel on December 12 and aims to finish his shopping before his departure. He intends to buy around 12 bottles of perfume for his family in Cairo. “Without discounts, they’d cost about Dh3,600, but with DSF offers, I expect to pay around Dh2,000, saving over Dh1,500,” he added.

Meanwhile, Asif Sheikh was examining price tags for winter jackets and children’s accessories at Deira City Centre — items he’s avoided purchasing since early autumn.

“I’ve been monitoring these prices since September,” the Indian accountant stated. “The staff mentioned discounts are imminent. Jackets that were Dh260 should now be around Dh140.”

Residing in Al Qusais, he’ll travel to Kazakhstan on December 21, planning to buy winter apparel, school bags, and gifts for kids. “By waiting, I know I’ll save at least Dh400. That’s why I held off on buying earlier.”

Similarly, businessman Shaver Hussain delayed buying new running shoes and sportswear, anticipating DSF deals.

“The shoes I want are currently Dh480,” he mentioned. “With DSF offers, I expect they’ll be around Dh240, saving 50% on one item.”

He also plans to purchase sportswear for himself and his brothers at home. “The bundle should be about Dh500 during DSF, versus Dh800 to Dh1,000 without offers,” he noted.

Although shopping activity is just starting to increase, mall staff report many customers are already inquiring about discounts and reserving items. With DSF lasting until January, residents plan to extend their shopping over the coming weeks, particularly before winter travel and family gatherings.
