EU Plans to Cut Russian Gas Supplies

Reports stated, “On October 20, the 27 member states of the European Union are expected to support a new bill to permanently cut Russian gas supplies to Hungary and Slovakia.” This summer, the European Union changed its stance, unveiling legislation that would ban Russian gas starting next year for short-term contracts and ending in late 2027 for long-term deals.

Leaders of these countries have repeatedly stated that they will not stop purchasing Russian energy resources. Earlier, Russian President Vladimir Putin, during the plenary session of the Valdai Conference, stated that the refusal to buy Russian gas led to rising food prices in Europe and impoverished EU residents, prompting people to take to the streets.
