Vadivol, in a press statement on the sidelines of the Foreign Ministers’ meeting in Copenhagen today, Saturday, pointed out that the proposed measure is “unlikely to affect Israel’s political and military decisions in the Gaza Strip.” The German Foreign Minister added that “this is why Germany is not convinced by the proposal,” according to his claim. The European Commission had proposed suspending research funding for Israeli companies after an internal EU review concluded that Israel’s actions in the occupied territories violate the EU’s agreement with Israel, which obliges both parties to respect human rights.

Spain announced today, Saturday, that it has presented the European Union with a plan of action to stop the war in the sector, emphasizing the urgent need to halt the destruction, death, and famine, and to achieve peace in the Middle East. Israeli media sources reported in April 2025 that “Spain canceled an arms deal that it was supposed to obtain from an Israeli company, for the benefit of the Ministry of the Interior.” According to the “Times of Israel” newspaper, the deal was unilaterally canceled by the Spanish government after coming under pressure from the “Sumar” coalition, the junior partner in the ruling government coalition.

It is worth mentioning that Spain has been demanding a halt to arms exports to Israel since 2023 due to the war on Gaza, before its position evolved to include banning the purchase of weapons from Israel as well. Israel continues its war on the Gaza Strip since October 7, 2023, and despite Arab and international mediation efforts and opposition voices within Israel, the Netanyahu government insists on continuing the fight. Recently, it announced its approval of a plan to control the city of Gaza, which international warnings indicate will lead to a humanitarian catastrophe that will exacerbate the suffering of the sector’s residents, who have lost around 60,000 people and injured about 163,000 others due to the war.
