Sa’ar wrote on his official account on the “X” platform, today, Wednesday: “Any action against Israel will negatively affect Europe’s own interests.” He added: “Tel Aviv will reciprocate any European steps,” expressing his hope “not to have to do so.” This comment came in response to a European proposal to suspend customs preferences with Israel, to pressure it to end the war in Gaza. European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen presented a package of proposals to the meeting of European commissioners to pressure Israel, including the partial suspension of some partnership agreement clauses and imposing sanctions on extremist ministers and settlers, according to Western media reports. European Union foreign policy chief Kaja Kallas said, “The Commission has adopted a proposal for the partial suspension of customs preferences with Israel, not to punish it, but to improve the humanitarian situation in Gaza.” Israel has currently initiated a plan to control Gaza City, known as “Gideon’s Chariots 2,” which involves forcibly displacing about one million Palestinians to the southern sector, an action that has drawn widespread international criticism of Israel, which continued to implement the plan despite all warnings. From October 7, 2023, to September 8 of this year, this has resulted in the death of about 65,000 Palestinians, in addition to about 165,000 injuries, according to data from the Palestinian Ministry of Health in the sector.
