Exploring Hybrid Vehicles in UAE’s EV Future

The fear of running out of power on long trips is known as range anxiety. In a country where long-distance road travel is common, this is a significant concern. This is where Plug-in Hybrid Electric Vehicles (PHEVs) and Range-Extended Electric Vehicles (REEVs) offer a practical solution, bridging the gap between fully electric and traditional gasoline-powered cars.

EVs and Long-Distance Travel

PHEVs and REEVs allow drivers to use electric power for daily commutes, offering ranges of over 100 km per charge. Given that most daily trips in the UAE are less than 50 km, these vehicles can manage these distances on electric power alone, producing zero emissions. It’s a seamless experience.

But what if you need to drive an EV from Dubai to Abu Dhabi or travel to another GCC country, perhaps for an upcoming public holiday in the UAE?

The advantage of these vehicles is their dual power source, featuring a backup petrol engine for long trips, providing a total combined range of up to 1,200 km. This allows for trips from Dubai to Muscat and back, or even a one-way journey to Salalah, without the need to stop for a charge or fear of being stuck.

Hybrid and extended-range solutions let drivers enjoy the benefits of zero emissions for everyday travel, while offering the convenience of longer range when necessary.

EV Adoption in the UAE

The UAE is at the forefront of global sustainability initiatives. With groundbreaking strategies like the UAE Net Zero 2050, innovative mobility incentives, and eco-friendly financing options, the nation is creating a model for others to emulate.

Currently, EV adoption is on the rise, supported by the expansion of necessary infrastructure. From government agencies and delivery services to individual consumers, more are choosing hybrid and electric vehicles. The RTA’s growing fleet of hybrid taxis exemplifies how performance and sustainability can drive swift adoption.

At Galadari, we are committed to this national ambition. Our soon-to-launch PHEVs and REEVs from Lynk & Co and OMODA & JAECOO blend sustainability with functionality, ready to navigate the roads of Dubai, Abu Dhabi, and beyond.
