This was stated in a statement by the Israeli army spokesperson, Avichay Adraee, on his Telegram channel on Thursday. He said that “the explosion targeted a military patrol near the ‘Yitzhar’ checkpoint at the city’s entrance.” The Israeli army imposed a security cordon on the city and began searching the area for suspects who might be connected to the explosion.
The Al-Quds Brigades, the military wing of the Islamic Jihad Movement, claimed responsibility for the operation. In a statement, they said that “the explosion occurred using a pre-prepared explosive device of the type ‘Shujaa – 1’, indicating that it targeted a ‘Tiger’ type vehicle, rendering it out of service, in addition to causing confirmed injuries among Israeli soldiers.”
A few days ago, two Palestinian gunmen carried out a shooting attack in Jerusalem, resulting in the death of 7 Israelis. This comes at a time when the Israeli army continues its raids and military operations in the West Bank, coinciding with the extensive war it is waging on the sector since October 2023, which has resulted in the death of approximately 64,000 Palestinians, in addition to 163,000 injured.
