The Al Arabiya channel, quoting its sources, reported that Cairo is rearranging its security communications with Israel after the attack. Meanwhile, the Egyptian presidency strongly condemned the operation, describing it as a “blatant violation of international law and Qatari sovereignty” and a “dangerous precedent that threatens mediation efforts and regional stability.” Egypt expressed full solidarity with Qatar, calling on the international community to intervene to stop Israeli aggressions and hold those responsible accountable.

The Israeli airstrike took place last Tuesday while several Hamas leaders, including Khalil al-Hayya, were meeting in Doha to discuss ceasefire efforts. The attack resulted in the death of six people, including al-Hayya’s son, although the movement confirmed that none of its senior members were injured.

The Israeli army announced it carried out an airstrike, stating that these leaders “bear direct responsibility for committing the October 7, 2023 massacre and managing the war against Israel.” Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Defense Minister Yisrael Katz issued a joint statement regarding the arrangement to assassinate Hamas leaders in Doha last Tuesday, stating that it “came after full consultation and support from Israeli security agencies.” The Israeli army named the operation “Summit of Fire.”

This Israeli attack follows threats made by Israeli Chief of Staff Eyal Zamir to eliminate Hamas leaders abroad amid the ongoing war in the Gaza Strip. Last year witnessed a series of Israeli assassinations targeting prominent Hamas leaders in Gaza, Iran, and Lebanon.
