Fuel Tanker Explosion Claims Lives in Nigeria

The local site ‘Vanguard’ reported, citing the Federal Road Safety Corps, that ’35 people were killed and 46 others injured in a tragic fuel tanker explosion on the Bida-Lapai road [in Abuja].’ It added that ‘the victims were burned while attempting to extract fuel from the overturned fuel tanker that had an accident yesterday [Tuesday].’ Last January, a fuel tanker explosion in the city of Seloja in central Nigeria left more than 80 dead, as announced by the country’s President Bola Tinubu at the time.

On October 15, 2024, at least 70 others were injured due to a fuel tanker explosion in Jigawa State, northern Nigeria, according to the police spokesperson in Jigawa State, Lawan Shisu Adam, to Sputnik.

Attempts to extract fuel from tanker accident sites often lead to fatalities in various parts of Nigeria.
