Gaza Peace Plan Proposal Awaiting Hamas Approval

Ravid mentioned in the post that the official indicated that approval from the Palestinian Islamic Resistance Movement (Hamas) is still required. Earlier on Sunday, Trump said he hopes to finalize the proposed Gaza peace plan during Monday’s meeting with Netanyahu. According to Axios, Trump presented a 21-point peace proposal regarding Gaza to Arab and Muslim leaders last Tuesday. The plan includes a complete ceasefire in the Gaza Strip, the release of all hostages, and a gradual withdrawal of Israeli forces from the Gaza Strip. Hamas is excluded from any role in Gaza’s administration after the war. The plan calls for the establishment of a security force consisting of Palestinians and military personnel from Arab and Muslim countries, with the leaders of these countries funding the new administration. The plan assumes that regional partners will provide security guarantees to ensure Hamas and other factions in Gaza comply with their commitments and that Gaza no longer poses a ‘threat’ to Israel or its people. The plan also includes cooperation with Arab and other international partners to establish a temporary international stabilization force that will immediately deploy to oversee security in the region. This force will develop and train a Palestinian police force to serve as a long-term internal security apparatus. Israel resumed its bombardment of the Gaza Strip on March 18, after a nearly two-month lull since the ceasefire agreement with Hamas took effect on January 19, following stalled talks on extending the first phase of the agreement or moving to its second phase. The ceasefire agreement between Israel and Hamas was supposed to continue once the first phase ended on March 1, or move to its second phase, but disagreements regarding the next steps prevented this. Meanwhile, Russian President Vladimir Putin warned that the Gaza Strip is experiencing a ‘humanitarian disaster,’ while the Russian Foreign Ministry emphasized the need to end the war in Gaza and launch Israeli-Palestinian negotiations aimed at achieving a two-state solution, establishing an independent Palestinian state that coexists peacefully and securely with Israel.
