The fashion world mourns as the iconic designer Giorgio Armani has died at 91, confirmed by a company statement.
Armani was a symbol of Italian style and sophistication. The Armani Group states: “With profound sadness, we announce the passing of our founder and visionary, Giorgio Armani.”
Known respectfully as Il Signor Armani by his team, he passed away peacefully with family by his side. He remained dedicated to his work, even in his final days, focusing on future projects and the company.

Giorgio Armani’s career is marked by consistent style, making him timeless in fashion. “I don’t dwell on my age,” he once told the New York Times, “I feel as young as when I started.”
KT LUXE catches up with the Milanese designer on his inspirations and why he sees Dubai as ‘a new luxury hub.’
At 90, Armani remains passionate about creation. “Turning 90 was significant, yet it fuels me to achieve more,” he says from his portrait-adorned Milan office. “Passion and the drive for improvement motivate me. There’s always room to enhance and achieve more.”
Now almost 91, Armani celebrates multiple anniversaries of his fashion house, including its 50th year and 20 years of Armani/Privé.
Following a grand Paris celebration, Milan hosts the Giorgio Armani Privè 2005-2025 exhibition at Armani Silos, showcasing 150 handcrafted luxury outfits.
Reflecting on his debut show in 1975: “It was memorable, showcasing my vision of modern tailoring—elegant yet comfortable, setting a template for my womenswear.”
His aesthetic remains aspirational, with some pieces becoming collector’s items, proving the timelessness of his work. “If young people resonate with my past work, it validates my pursuit of a timeless style,” he says.
How will Armani celebrate its golden anniversary?
“I’m considering plans for the 50th anniversary but it’s too early to share details,” he says. “This year marks a decade of Armani/Silos and two decades of Giorgio Armani Privé, so it’s the perfect time to showcase these creations in Milan.”
Armani dazzled Paris with a show celebrating two decades of Armani Privé, crafted by skilled seamstresses in Milan.
“Creating a recognizable style is a proud achievement,” he says. “I’ve worked hard to build something enduring. Showing Armani/Privé in Paris respects couture’s history and proves Italian craftsmanship’s excellence. I’m proudly Italian,” he adds with a smile.
Armani/Casa celebrates 25 years, blending Western and Eastern design inspirations, including influences from the Middle East. “I’m inspired by different cultures, particularly the Middle East’s art and geometry,” he notes.
With a strong work ethic, Armani writes in his autobiography, “Per Amore”: “I’ve never sought artificial pleasure; work’s adrenaline is my high.”
The line between Giorgio Armani the man and the brand is blurred, he says, “They’re intrinsically linked by my taste and vision.”
What shaped Armani’s genius? “Post-war Italy’s hunger for beauty and my mother’s influence of discipline and dignity shaped me,” he recalls.
“Creativity is my life’s joy,” he says. “I find inspiration everywhere—films, conversations, travels. Reality fuels my creativity.”
Armani is driven, never experiencing creative blocks. “The urge to create is innate. I love seeing my ideas come to life.”
Enthusiastic about Dubai, he calls it “a cradle of new luxury, drawing from rich culture.”
Fame is a byproduct of his passion, not a goal. In “Per Amore,” he accepts fame as a commitment’s consequence.
How does he handle success? “Self-discipline is key. I prefer my work to speak for itself,” he says.
His advice for young designers: “Have a vision, pursue it with passion, and make your own decisions. Stay true to yourself.”
“History inspires me, but I look forward, asking what my customers want today and tomorrow.”
Armani’s design revolution softened male and female silhouettes while maintaining elegance.
Living his golden years, Armani has no regrets. “I would do it all over again,” he says.
Reflecting on Armani Hotel in Dubai: “It’s been a remarkable experience, fully integrating into the city.”
Considering new projects, he hints at Armani Beach Residences Palm Jumeirah. “Inspiration guides my next steps.”
Every visit to Dubai is a reminder of its dynamic spirit. “I admire its transformation from a fishing village to a global city,” he says.
Armani sees a kindred spirit in Dubai’s pragmatism and evolution, keeping him returning.
