Hamas has informed mediators of its acceptance of the latest Gaza ceasefire proposal, a group official told Reuters on Monday.

No additional details were provided by the official.

The previous round of indirect ceasefire talks ended in a stalemate in late July, with both parties blaming each other for the collapse.

According to sources familiar with the Cairo discussions, Egyptian and Qatari mediators met with leaders of Hamas, Islamic Jihad, and other factions, but little progress was made.

The new Gaza ceasefire proposal involves a 60-day suspension of military operations and could lead to a comprehensive agreement to end the nearly two-year-long conflict, an Egyptian official source told Reuters on Monday.

The suspension period would include the exchange of Palestinian prisoners for the release of half of the Israeli hostages held in Gaza, the source mentioned.

Earlier, Hamas had informed mediators of its willingness to discuss a US-proposed 60-day truce and the release of half the hostages, according to an unnamed official speaking to Reuters, and also aimed for a wider agreement to end the conflict.

Highlighting the ongoing challenges in ceasefire negotiations, US President Donald Trump stated on his social media platform on Monday: “We will only see the return of the remaining hostages when Hamas is confronted and destroyed!!! The sooner this takes place, the better the chances of success will be.”
