In its statement, “Hamas” said that “what the American media confirmed, quoting the Public Defense Office at the Israeli Ministry of Justice, regarding the sharp deterioration in the conditions of Palestinian prisoners inside Israeli prisons, including systematic torture, deprivation of food, and deliberate overcrowding in cells, represents an official acknowledgment of the occupation’s violations, which have resulted in the deaths of many due to torture and medical neglect.

This documentation, along with dozens of international and UN reports, confirms the unprecedented level of violations and criminal behavior practiced by Israel against prisoners, with complete disregard for international and humanitarian laws that prohibit torture and cruel and inhumane treatment.

Hamas added in the statement: “We call on international human rights organizations, led by the International Committee of the Red Cross, to urgently act to reveal the extent of these violations and hold the occupation leaders accountable for their crimes, which will not be subject to a statute of limitations.”

A report issued by the Public Defense Office at the Israeli Ministry of Justice in the past hours revealed a sharp deterioration in the detention conditions of Palestinian prisoners classified as “security” since October 7, 2023. The report, covering the years 2023 and 2024, described the situation as “one of the most serious detention crises Israel has ever known.”

It indicated that “a team of lawyers visited dozens of detention centers, including 8 facilities for Palestinian prisoners, conducted interviews with them, and examined their environment.” The report stated that “the prisoners suffer from severe hunger, leading to significant weight loss, fainting, and evident physical weakness.” It also pointed to occasional deprivation of drinking water, severe shortages of hygiene supplies, and a widespread outbreak of scabies described as an “epidemic” during the war.

Last Tuesday, 5 freed Palestinian prisoners from the Gaza Strip arrived at the “Martyrs of Al-Aqsa” hospital in the central region after being released from Israeli prisons. Sources indicated that the freed prisoners are “Saadi Mohammed Saeed Hasanein (16 years old), Khader Omar Dawood Abu Muslim (47 years old), Ahmed Ali Ahmed Al-Astal (29 years old), Mohammed Aayed Hassan Al-Ghoul (38 years old), and Zaher Abdul Hamid Abdullah Abu Oudeh (51 years old).”

The sources added that they arrived in critical health conditions due to what they said was “exposure to torture, humiliation, and deprivation of food during their detention.” This release is part of limited batches carried out by the Israeli army for several detainees from the Gaza Strip, following months of detention in Israeli detention centers and prisons, as part of a ceasefire agreement between Israel and “Hamas”, according to the Palestinian Information Center.
