Historic Launch of Canadian and ADNOC LNG Exports

The energy sector reported on Saturday evening that the list of the largest LNG deals for last July witnessed, for the first time, a historic launch of Canadian gas exports, alongside a new deal from ADNOC reflecting its global ambitions. In the same month, Qatar Energy strengthened its position in the Asian market through shipments and fleet expansions amidst a global race to secure supplies before winter. The month also included a significant deal between Qatar and Australia, as well as a long-term agreement with Europe, while Canada made headlines by launching its first LNG exports across the Pacific Ocean.

In the same vein, UAE’s ADNOC transferred its 24.9% stake in the Austrian oil company OMV to its global investment firm, XRJ, as part of a plan to expand globally in the fields of gas, chemicals, and energy solutions. XRJ aims to become one of the top 5 global LNG companies with a production capacity ranging from 20 to 25 million tons annually by 2035. It also seeks to establish an international platform for chemicals among the largest in the world, in a step that comes as part of accelerating the growth of UAE energy investments and maximizing its assets in Europe and Asia.

Additionally, ADNOC Gas enhanced its presence in July 2025 by expanding into the European market and signing a contract to supply liquefied natural gas to Germany’s SEFE for Energy Security for Europe for three years, with an estimated value of about $400 million. ADNOC will deliver about 0.7 million metric tons of LNG annually starting from 2025 from the Das Island facility, which is one of the oldest gas liquefaction plants in the region, with an export capacity of 6 million tons annually.
